2 Charged Over Mexican Drug Cartel-Linked Meth Lab Uncovered in Enugu

The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, NDLEA, has arraigned in court two men who were arrested in connection with a Mexican drug cartel-linked secret Methamphetamine production facility in Enugu State.

The accused persons are 45-year-old CHUKWU OBUMNEME CHRISTOPHER, alias BROWN, and 60-year-old CHUKWU GEORGINUS MONDAY, alias GEORGE.

The men were arrested in connection with a hard drug production laboratory at Eziama community, in Obeagu, Awgu Local Government Area of Enugu State.

They are alleged to be working in partnership with a notorious Mexican drug cartel member, identified as RODRIGUEZ VILLANUEVA, who is based in Mexico City.

NDLEA spokesman, FEMI BABAFEMI, said the suspects were arraigned before Justice MABEL TAIYE SEGUN-BELLO of the Federal High Court sitting in Enugu.

They are facing a five-count charge bordering on conspiracy, drug trafficking, and unlawful possession of methamphetamine production materials.

Also named in the charge are the Mexican drug cartel member, RODRIGUEZ VILLANUEVA, as well as two other Nigerians, including one CELESTINE IKEMEFUNA IWUCHUKWU, who are all said to be at large.

After taking the pleas of the two accused persons present in court, Justice SEGUN-BELLO adjourned the case to October 21, 2026, for an accelerated hearing.
