4 POLICEMEN ON ILLEGAL DUTY DETAINED, LAND-GRABBER DECLARED WANTED OVER DEADLY CLASHES AT OWODE ONIRIN MARKET

The Lagos State Police Command has detained four policemen for engaging in illegal operations involving land-grabbing from outside Lagos, leading to violence and disturbance of public peace.

The detained policemen were arrested in connection with violent clashes between traders at the Owode Onirin Market and landgrabbers led by one ABIODUN ORIORI, during which three persons lost their lives and several others injured, including a police officer.

The Police Public Relations Officer, CSP BENJAMIN HUNDEYIN, disclosed in a statement that the detained policemen will face orderly room trial, while ABIODUN ORIORI has been declared wanted.

CSP HUNDEYIN noted that the Lagos State Commissioner of Police, OLOHUNDARE JIMOH personally led a combined team of police detachment to the affected area to help restore normalcy.

HUNDEYIN said that the three fatally injured persons were confirmed dead when they were rushed to the hospital, while an injured Police Inspector is in critical with life-threatening injuries at the hospital.
