ABDULRAHMAN LAWAL RAJI Jailed 15 Years for N26m Car Purchase Fraud
Justice ISMAIL IJELU of the Lagos State High Court sitting in Ikeja has jailed one ABDULRAHMAN LAWAL RAJI for fifteen years over a Twenty-Six-Million-Naira fraud.
This comes nearly three years after the Lagos Zonal Directorate One of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, arraigned RAJI before the court on an amended two-count charge of obtaining by false pretence.
The EFCC alleged that ABDULRAHMAN LAWAL RAJI and one ABDULRAHMAN LAWAL, who is at large, obtained the sum of Twenty-Six Million Naira from one OLAIDE IBIDAPO by falsely representing it was the purchase price for a Toyota Hilux 2022 car, with intent to defraud.
During the trial, the EFCC’s prosecution counsel, EBUKA OKONGWU, called four witnesses and tendered several documents that were admitted in evidence by the court, while the defence called two witnesses.
In his judgment, Justice IJELU held that the prosecution proved beyond reasonable doubts the charges against the defendant and convicted him accordingly.
Justice IJELU sentenced ABDULRAHMAN LAWAL RAJI to ten years imprisonment on count one, as well as five years’ imprisonment on count two, with no option of fine on either count, while the sentences are to run concurrently.
The judge also ordered the defendant to restitute the petitioner to the tune of N26,000,000 to the petitioner
