ABIA STATE SEEKS PARTNERSHIP WITH FG ON NATIONAL MONUMENTS TO BOOST TOURISM

The Abia State Government has declared its willingness to partner with the Federal Government to boost tourism in the state.

Governor Alex Otti stated this during a meeting with a delegation from the National Commission for Museums and Monuments, led by its Director-General, Hon. Olugbile Holloway.

Governor Otti said that working together with the Federal Government would assist in harnessing the tourist potentials of Abia State for the overall development of the state.

He listed the National War Museum, Ojukwu Bunker, the Long Juju of Arochukwu, the cave in Umunneochi, the Azumini Blue River, among tourist sites with huge potentials in Abia State.

The Governor said if those sites and several others are properly developed, Abia State could become one of the most visited destinations in Nigeria.

He said "It will be very nice if we can take the tourist sites one after the other. I don't know how much budget you have but I know it will cost a lot of money trying to just fix the infrastructure not to talk of the other part of it which is the story telling part.”

Earlier, the Director-General and Chief Executive Officer of the National Commission for Museums and Monuments, Hon. Olugbile Holloway said his team was in Abia to discuss collaborations for tourism development in Abia State.

"Some of the sites we are interested in bringing back to life are the National War Museum and the Ojukwu Bunker including the Long Juju of Arochukwu,” Holloway noted.
