Body of 9th Woman Recovered, as SA Police Battle Mysterious Killings in Johannesburg

Police in South Africa have recovered the body of a ninth woman in ongoing investigations of a string of unexplained deaths east of Johannesburg within the last two months.

Reports indicate that the latest victim was found half-naked and wrapped in a sheet on the side of a road in Dawn Park on Thursday morning, and police are yet to release her identity.

The discovery follows the deaths of eight other women whose bodies have been found since July across Ekurhuleni, a major urban area of Johannesburg.

Several of the women were found partially clothed and with injuries, but police have stressed that they have not established whether all the deaths are connected or whether a serial killer is responsible.

President CYRIL RAMAPHOSA has vowed that no stone will be left unturned in finding those behind the killings, which he said were causing fear and uncertainty in our communities.

South Africa has been reeling from gang killings, including a veteran South African sports journalist who was found dead with gunshot wounds, hours after he was abducted when his vehicle was hijacked in a township near Johannesburg.

Police said OWEN NDLOVU, a former presenter with the state-run SABC, was seized on Tuesday while collecting his wife from a church in Katlehong, and his body was discovered by residents the following morning.

Provincial police spokesperson Colonel DIMAKATSO NEVHUHULWI said they have launched a manhunt for three suspects and are investigating the circumstances surrounding NDLOVU’s killing.
