BRECAN Founder Calls for Sustained Breast Cancer Awareness Intervention

The founder of the Breast Cancer Association of Nigeria, BRECAN, Doctor BETTY ANYANWU AKEREDOLU, has called for public awareness on breast cancer to go beyond the month of October.

Doctor BETTY AKEREDOLU says breast cancer continues to be a significant public health issue, which requires an all-year-round commitment.

The 29-year breast cancer survivor noted that access to accurate information and timely medical assessment can notably improve patient outcomes.

She made the observations during a public awareness campaign involving women and schoolgirls drawn from around Lagos State to mark the end of breast cancer awareness in the month of October.

Also speaking, MARY GBOBANIYI, the Sales Manager for West Africa of Delta Air Lines, who led the awareness walk from the Police College in Ikeja, said the support for breast cancer is to encourage public enlightenment, prompt medical attention, and assure those affected that they have support.

Also speaking in an interview, the Chairperson of the Lagos State chapter of the Breast Cancer Association of Nigeria, CHINEYE ARIH, shared her personal experience from surviving breast cancer to encourage other women.

Other breast cancer advocates who joined the BRECAN awareness exercise, shared different perspectives on simple routine checks that can help women detect signs of potential breast cancer.
