Court Jails 3 Bandits for Life Over Kidnapping Oriire Pupils and Teachers

Three bandits who took part in the abduction of schoolchildren and teachers in Oriire Local Government Area of Oyo State have been sentence to life imprisonment.

They are ABDULRAZAK UMAR, alias ABU KHALIFA/ABU KHALID; YUNUSA MUSA, alias YUNUSA BIN MUSA; and SHAMSU ADAMU SANI, alias ABU ITISAR, who are all from Niger State.

Justice SALIM IBRAHIM of the Federal High Court in Abuja, delivered the judgement after the defendants pleaded guilty to charges brought against them by the Department of State Services, DSS.

The ten-count charges against the defendants include involvement in terrorism, kidnapping, concealing of information related to kidnapping, and membership of proscribed Ansaru terror group.

However, the DSS has said it would appeal the judgement, on the ground that the life sentence handed against the convicts was not commensurate with the crimes they committed in Oriire, including the beheading of two teachers.
