EDO COURT JAILS 10 INTERNET FRAUDSTERS IN BENIN CITY

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, has secured the conviction of ten internet fraudsters, who were arraigned before Edo State High Court, sitting in Benin City.

The Court presided over by Justice Mary E. ITSUELI convicted the defendants and sentenced them to two years in prison each, after they all pleaded guilty to separate charges bordering on impersonation, obtaining by false pretence, advance fee fraud, retention of proceeds of crime and possession of fraudulent documents.

The convicts are: Okoro Emmanuel, Billwise James Dikoru, Enoma Osasumwen, Samson Festus, Godspower Afolorunikon, Omonle Godwin Damien, Sunday Uanseoje, Sylvester Iziren Udu, Ani Emmanuel Chucks and Amilegbe Saviour

They were prosecuted on separate one-count charges, bordering impersonation, obtaining by false pretence, advance fee fraud, retention of proceeds of crime and possession of fraudulent documents.

Justice ITSUELI, however, gave each of the convicts an option of fine of Two Hundred Thousand Naira and a written undertaking to be of good behaviour.

The Judge also ordered the forfeiture of their mobile phones, laptop computers, and money found in their respective bank accounts to the federal government

The convicts’ journey to jail began with their arrest by operatives of the Benin Zonal Directorate of the EFCC, following credible intelligence that exposed their fraudulent internet activities.
