EFCC DETAINS KANO-BASED TIKTOK INFLUENCER, MURJA KUNYA, FOR ALLEGED NAIRA ABUSE

Operatives of the Kano Zonal Directorate of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, have arrested a popular TikTok influencer, Murja Ibrahim Kunya, for allegedly abusing and mutilating the Naira.

EFCC spokesman, Dele Oyewale, disclosed in a statement that Kunya was arrested for allegedly spraying Naira notes during her stay at Tahir Guest Palace in Kano.

Oyewale alleged that Kunya had jumped an administrative bail before he was arrested following diligent pursuit by EFCC operatives, which lasted over one month.

He said the suspect was initially arrested in January 2025 for violating the Central Bank of Nigeria, CBN, Act which prohibits the abuse and mutilation of the Naira, was granted administrative bail pending her arraignment before the Federal High Court in Kano.

However, the EFCC spokesman said when it was time for her court appearance, Kunya absconded, thereby frustrating the legal processes, until she was rearrested on Sunday March 16, 2025.
