Lagos Island NURTW Leader, SHAMELON Faces Charges for Beating Dispatch Rider to Death

A popular leader of the National Union of Road Transport Workers, NURTW, within the Lagos Island axis, identified as SHAMSUDEEN OLADITI has been arraigned in court over the death of a dispatch motorcycle rider, whose name was given as RAMON IMAM.

Fifty-five-year-old OLADITI, better known as SHAMELON, is facing three counts of conspiracy, attempted murder, and involuntary manslaughter of a dispatch motorcycle rider.

The Lagos State Government arraigned OLADITI before the Lagos State High Court sitting in Ikeja, nearly a year after he committed the alleged crimes between August 27 and September 17, 2025.

During the arraignment, the prosecution counsel, JUBRIL KAREEM, told Justice OLAWALE ALEBIOSU that the defendant beat RAMON IMAM to death, and also attempted to murder one SAMUEL OMALE by beating him with fist blows.

However, SHAMSUDEEN OLADITI pleaded not guilty to the charges against him, following which Justice ALEBIOSU granted an application for the Controller of Corrections at the Kirikiri Prison to confirm the defendant’s medical status, and adjourned the matter for trial to June 15, 2026.

SHAMSUDEEN OLADITI was first arraigned before the Yaba Magistrates Court in September, 2025, on charges of murder and assault in connection with volent attacks against dispatch riders in Lagos Island.
