Lagos Universities Strike: GRV Backs Demands by LASU, LASUED, LASUSTECH, LASUCOM Workers

The Lagos State governorship candidate of the African Democratic Congress, ADC, GBADEBO RHODES-VIVOUR, has backed protesting workers of all four state-owned tertiary institutions who embarked on an indefinite strike.

These are the Lagos State University, LASU; the Lagos State University of Education, LASUED; the Lagos State University of Science and Technology, LASUSTECH; and the Lagos State University College of Medicine, LASUCOM.

In a statement, GBEDEBO RHODES-VIVOUR said the university workers deserve a pay rise and a government that honours its commitments to them, adding that a government that allows its universities to shut down indefinitely is not only failing its workers, but gambling with the future of the children.

RHODES-VIVOUR noted that asking for nine months of unpaid arrears, implementation of agreed salary structure, and fifteen percent Lagos Factor allowance are not unreasonable demands in an economy that has pauperized working people.

He called on the Lagos State Government to immediately pay the nine months arrears owed the university workers, covering January to September 2026.

Additionally, he said the government must implement the agreed salary structure and the fifteen percent Lagos Factor in full, among other demands by the aggrieved workers.

He urged Governor BABAJIDE SANWO-OLU and his Deputy, OBAFEMI HAMZAT, to meet with the unions this week and bring the strike to an immediate end.
