NBA Eti-Osa Ushers in 2026 Law Week with Health Walk, Jumat Prayers, Thanksgiving Service
Preliminary events for the 2026 Law Week of the Nigerian Bar Association, Eti-Osa Branch, continued over the weekend, with a Health Walk on Saturday, followed by a thanksgiving church service on Sunday.
Members of the NBA Eti-Osa Branch, famed as the Coastline Bar, ignored unfavourable weather, with threats of rainfall on Saturday morning, and trooped out in their numbers for the Health Walk.
Clad in branded shirts provided by one of the Law Week sponsors, Leemaz Computers & Homes, the participants processed from the secretariat of the Eti-Osa Local Government council, Igbo Efon, through the Lekki-Epe Expressway, down to Jakande Estate axis, and back.
The event turned out to be more than just a routine fitness exercise, transforming into a celebration of wellness, friendship, and team spirit. Along the route, participants thrilled onlookers with lively dance steps, laughter, and positive energy while receiving practical fitness and wellness tips from a professional gym instructor.
Earlier, on Friday, the Chairman of the NBA, Eti-Osa Branch, OLANREWAJU OBADINA, flagged off the week-long 2026 Law Week celebration with a press conference at the Lagos State High Court complex in Ajah, where he outlined the theme for the year, the lineup of events and an array of legal luminaries who have confirmed their participation.
These include the Honourable Minister of Justice and Attorney General of Manitoba, Canada, Hon. MATT WIEBE, as Guest Speaker, as well as the Attorneys-General of all six states in the South-West of Nigeria.
Immediately after the Press Briefing, members of the Branch proceeded to the Lekki Central Mosque for the Jumat Thanksgiving Service, presided over by the Chief Imam of Lekki Central Mosque, Dr. RIDWAN JAMIU.
In his sermon, the highly respected Islamic scholar and legal practitioner, spoke extensively on the teachings of Islam of tolerance, and peaceful coexistence, admonishing Muslims to refrain from hatred and divisive preaching, and to attract people to the faith with wisdom.
He acknowledged the presence of members of the Executive Committee of the NBA Eti-Osa Branch, among others, and offered prayers for the continued growth and elevation of the branch, just as he commended lawyers for their role in promoting justice within society.
In a thought-provoking reflection, the Chief Imam distinguished between what is commonly referred to as the "Court of Law" and the "Court of Justice."
He encouraged legal practitioners to continue defending the poor, protecting the vulnerable, and ensuring that justice remains accessible to the downtrodden.
Responding on behalf of the Branch, the Chairman, Mr. OLANREWAJU OBADINA, expressed profound appreciation to the Chief Imam for his fatherly role, warm reception, and continued support for the Branch.
The Chairman encouraged lawyers within the congregation to identify with the Branch and contribute towards its growth and development. He also took the opportunity to highlight the various activities scheduled for the Law Week and urged members of the public to actively participate.
The weekend events were wrapped up with a thanksgiving church service on Sunday, held at the Goshen Church, by Elf Bus Stop, off the Lekki-Epe Expressway.
