NDLEA ARREST EX-INTERNATIONAL FOOTBALLER FOR COCAINE SMUGGLING

Operatives of the National Drugs Law Enforcement Agency, NDLEA, have arrested a former international footballer, SEGUN GEORGE HUNKARIN, in connection with the smuggling of cocaine into Nigeria.

NDLEA operatives picked up SEGUN GEORGE following the arrest of one NTORUKA EMMANUEL CHINEDU on June 24, at the Murtala Mohammed International Airport in Lagos with twenty-two-point-six kilograms of cocaine.

NDLEA’s Director of Media and Advocacy, FEMI BABAFEMI, said NTORUKA, who is alleged to be SEGUN’s business partners, is a frequent flyer known for conveying clothes from Turkey to Nigeria and foodstuffs from Nigeria to Turkey.

However, BABAFEMI said a search of his carry-on bag revealed that he was carrying thirty-seven wraps of cocaine, weighing 800grams.

He said the suspect had travelled from Turkey on an Ethiopian Airlines flight, with a stopover in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia where he is believed to have picked up the cocaine consignment from another person before heading to Nigeria.

The NDLEA spokesman said further investigation revealed that the accomplice who handed over the cocaine wraps turned out to be SEGUN GEORGE HUNKARIN, who was already waiting at the airport carpark to collect the contraband.
