Nigerian Professor Jailed in USA for $1.4M Education Fraud
A Federal Judge in Michigan, United States, has jailed one Professor NKECHY EZEH of Nigerian descent for seventy months.
Professor EZEH was convicted over a One-Point-Four Million Dollar fraud scheme involving taxpayer and donor funds meant for vulnerable preschool children.
The sixty-one-year-old woman committed the crime through a nonprofit known as Early Learning Neighborhood Collaborative, funded by US federal programmes, the Department of Education, and private donors.
The Office of the US Attorney for the Western District of Michigan announced the sentencing in a press statement, saying that Chief US District Judge HALA Y. JARBOU delivered the judgment.
Judge JARBOU also imposed a concurrent sixty-month sentence for tax evasion and ordered EZEH to pay One-Point-Four Million Dollars in restitution and another Three Hundred and Ninety Thousand, One Hundred and Seventy Dollars to the U.S. Internal Revenue Service.
