NIMET ISSUES FLOOD ALERT IN 20 STATES …Calls for emergency evacuation in flood plains

The Nigerian Meteorological Agency, NiMET, has issued a flood alert in twenty states for the month of July.

The affected states include Sokoto, Lagos, Edo, Benue, and 16, which are at risk of experiencing flash floods.

NiMET said other states with notable risk of flash flooding are Kaduna, Zamfara, Yobe, Bauchi, Bayelsa, Jigawa, Adamawa, Taraba, Niger, Nasarawa, Ogun, Ondo, Delta, Cross River, Rivers and Akwa Ibom.

The agency advised residents of the states to relocate, if necessary, clear drainage systems, prepare emergency kits, turn off electricity and gas during flooding, strengthen mudslide prevention, and promote community awareness.
