NNAMDI KANU's Sokoto Prisons Transfer Bid Fails
The jailed leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, NNAMDI KANU, has failed in his bid to secure a court order for his transfer from the Sokoto Custodial Centre.
This is because Justice JAMES OMOTOSHO of the Federal High Court in Abuja struck out KANU’s ex-parte motion, seeking transfer from the Sokoto Prison for incompetence.
Kanu’s legal representative, DEMDOO ASAN, who is from the Legal Aid Council, informed the court about his decision to withdraw from the matter due to what he described as “irreconcilable issues”.
ASAN explained that since the last adjourned date, he had been in constant phone communication with KANU’s relatives, but the refused to show up at the Legal Aid office to depose to the application.
He further complained that KANU sought to dictate the proceedings and control what counsel would say in court, which he said he could not accept in good faith, as an officer of the court.
Ruling on the application for withdrawal as counsel, Justice OMOTOSHO commended the Legal Aid lawyer for upholding the dignity of the court.
