POLICE ARREST INEC OFFICIALS WITH N2.5M DURING BYE-ELECTION IN OGUN STATE
The Ogun State Police Command has launched an investigation to determine how two officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, for alleged possession of huge sums of cash during the by-election in the state.
The Police Public Relations Officer, CSP OMOLOLA ODUTOLA, identified the suspects as Toryem Joe-Stans (m) and Mandara Aminat (f), who were arrested alongside their driver at Iperu Remo, Ogun State, during the Federal Constituency by-election.
CSP ODUTOLA said a police patrol team attached to Iperu Remo Division intercepted the suspects in a Mitsubishi Spacewagon, with registration number LAGOS AKD 887 HT, at about 0045hrs,
The PPRO said a search of the vehicle led to the recovery of the cash sum of Two Million, Five Hundred Thousand Naira (₦2,500,000.00) from Mr. JOE-STANS TORYEM.
She said during interrogation, TORYEM confessed that the money was collected at Kehoy Hotel, Iperu, Ogun State, from a man he referred to as “Political Solution”, acting on the directive of his supervisor.
The police spokesperson said the Ogun State Commissioner of Police, CP LANRE OGUNLOWO, has ordered that the suspects be transferred to the State CID, Eleweran, for further investigation.
The said the CP assured members of the public that the command will keep them abreast of the outcome of the investigation.
