POLICE CONFIRMS GRENADE EXPLOSION, RECOVER 2 OTHERS AT IDI-ARABA, MUSHIN, LAGOS

The Lagos State Police Command has confirmed that an explosion that happened at Idi-Araba area of Mushin on Thursday, April 3, 2025, was caused by a military-grade grenade.
The Police Public Relations Officer, CSP Benjamin Hundeyin, confirmed in a statement that the explosion occurred when a scrap metal dealer attempted to cut a metal object, which turned out to be a military-grade grenade.
CSP Hundeyin said the scrap metal dealers died in the blast, while three other yet-to-be identified persons sustained injuries and are currently receiving treatment in hospital.
Hundeyin said experts from the Explosives Ordinance Disposal and Chemical, Biological, Radiological, and Nuclear Unit of the Lagos State Police Command who were mobilised to the scene also recovered two unexploded grenades of the same military calibre.
He said the area where the explosion occurred has been cordoned off for further investigation to determine the circumstances surrounding the incident and for steps to be taken to prevent a repeat of such incident.
The PPRO said that the Commands EOD-CBRN Unit has been working in collaboration with the Counter-Improvised Explosive Device Squadron of the 81 Division of the Nigerian Army to determine the origin of the grenades.
He further said that the Lagos State Commissioner of Police, CP Olohundare Jimoh, has sympathised with the families of the victims, just as he urged residents of the state to remain clam, peaceful, and go about their lawful activities without fear.
