Police Smashes Child Trafficking Syndicate in Mowe, Ogun State, 6 Suspects Arrested, 6 Victims Rescued

The Ogun State Police Command has smashed a child trafficking syndicating operating from an illegal maternity outfit located at Aberan village, in Mowe.

The operation on Monday, August 24, 2026, resulted in the rescue of four children and two pregnant women at Toluwalase Street, Aberan, as well as the arrest of six suspected members of the gang.

The suspects include fifty-eighty-year-old FLORENCE GLORY OGBONNA, sixty-three-year-old MAGDALENE JULIUS, and a nurse identified as OSENI KUSAMOTU.

Others are forty-year-old CHIDIKE EGWUONWU, thirty-five-year-old ONYECHU CHIDIKE and thirty-nine-year-old STEPHEN OGBONA.

The Ogun State Deputy Police Public Relations Officer, ASP OLUBORODE OPEYEMI, confirmed the development in a statement.

ASP OEPEYEMI gave the names of the rescued pregnant women as ILESANMI FOLUKE, who is twenty-seven-years-old and seven months pregnant, while the other is EJEKWE MELODY, who is said to be twenty-years-old and eight months pregnant.

He said further investigation by the police led to another victim of the syndicate, identified as twenty-six-year-old BLESSING BRIGHT, who had allegedly delivered a baby boy at the illegal maternity on August 20, 2026.

The Police spokesman said BLESSING BRIGHT was trailed to a hospital within the Mowe axis where she was receiving retreatment, without her newborn baby boy, which prompted the arrest of the nurse attending to her.

He said the case has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department at Eleweran, Abeokuta, for further investigation to unravel the scope of the trafficking syndicate and track down children sold by the gang.
