President Tinubu Signs Electoral Act, 2026, 24hrs After NASS Passage

President BOLA TINUBU has signed the Electoral Act Repeal and Re-Enactment Bill 2026 into law, twenty-four hours after it was passed by the Senate and the House of Representatives.

President TINUBU signed the bill at the State House yesterday in the presence of top government officials, including the Senate President, Godswill Akpabio; and the Speaker of the House of Representatives, TAJUDEEN ABBAS.

In his remarks during the brief ceremony, President TINUBU stressed the need for solid discussions on national development and nation-building as the essence of democracy, especially for the stability of the nation.

TINUBU maintained that the history aspects of elections is not as important as the need to manage the process to the extent there would be no confusion and no disenfranchisement of Nigerians.

He urged Nigerians to have confidence in their system, just as he played down the debate over the transmission of election results, stressing that the final results would not require talking to the computer, but the human beings who will announce the final results.

The President said the crux of the arguments is the question of Nigeria’s broadband capability, stressing that whether real-time transmission of results or not, depends on how technical the country is today.
