The Police Service Commission has splashed promotions on nine hundred and fifty-two Assistant Superintendents of Police, effectively elevating them to the rank of Deputy Superintendents of Police, DSP.
However, the PSC turned down the names of one hundred and seventy-six others who were shortlisted for promotion by the leadership of the Nigeria Police Force, as they were found to have retired, as well as three others who are dead.
These decisions were adopted at the first Plenary Meeting of the Sixth Board of the Police Service Commission, which was held at the PSC Headquarters in Jabi, Abuja.
The Chairman of the Commission, HASHIMU ARGUNGU; a retired Deputy Inspector General of Police, while presiding over the meeting, charged the promoted police officers to imbibe the spirit of nationalism and respect for the laws and regulations of the Police Service.
DIG ARGUNGU warned that the Commission would no longer tolerate diversionary and unauthorised actions by serving police officers, without following duly established channels to address matters of concerns.
ARGUNGU assured them that the Commission would continue to ensure that their career progression is not hindered or trampled upon.
PSC spokesman, IKECHUKWU ANI, disclosed in a statement that the decision of the Commission has been transmitted to the Inspector General of Police for implementation in a letter signed by the Secretary to the Commission, ONYEMUCHE NNAMANI.
