RESIDENTS OF LEKKI, IKORODU, AJEGUNLE IN LAGOS GET FRESH FLOOD ALERT

By Frank Zera, Lagos 484

The Lagos State Government has issued a fresh flood alert for Lekki, Ikorodu and Ajegunle areas of the state, urging residents at risk to relocate from lowlands to highlands.

The Commissioner for the Environment, TOKUNBO WAHAB, said those around the Ajilete axis, Ikorodu coastline and parts of the Lekki corridor should move to avoid the hazards of flooding, as rainfall intensifies.

Speaking on a television programme yesterday, WAHAB said Lagos, as a coastal city, is exposed to the dangers of climate change and will experience flash flooding this year.

He cited predictions by the Nigerian Meteorological Agency that Lagos State would experience much more rainfall this year than last year.
