Rivers Politics: Rival Camps Disagree Over Clash of Isiokpo and Ubima Events

Rivers State chapter of the All Progressives Congress, APC, has defended comments by the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, NYESOM WIKE, for throwing political jabs at former governor ROTIMI AMAECHI, while he was burying his mother over the weekend.

NYESOM WIKE faulted AMAECHI for not bringing development to the state when he served as Minister under late President MUHAMMADU BUHARI, from 2025 to 2023.

WIKE made the remarks during a reception in his honour at Ishiokpo, Ikwere Local Government Area of Rivers State, which coincided with the funeral ceremony for AMAECHI in nearby Ubima community within the same local government area.

The clash of both events last Saturday had been a subject of mixed reactions, with some critics questioning the timing of the WIKE event as an afterthought to score a political point.

Others condemned the closure of a section of the road leading to Ubima, which caused traffic obstruction and delays for guests attending AMAECHI’s mother funeral.

However, CHIBIKE IKENGA, who is the spokesman for a faction of the APC in Rivers, denied claims that the road leading to Ubima was deliberately blocked for the WIKE event, in order to obstruct the burial of AMAECHI’s mother.

In contrast to the CHIBIKE IKENGA’s claim, the spokesman for the Rivers State chapter of the African Democratic Congress, CHIZZY ENYI criticized the FCT Minister for choosing to play politics over the funeral of AMEACHI’s mother.
