SDP's ADEWOLE ADEBAYO Offers to Join Legal Battle Against Court Deregistration of ADC and 4 Others
The presidential candidate of the Social Democratic Party, ADEWOLE ADEBAYO, has offered to assist opposition listed for deregistration on the orders of Justice PETER LIFU of the Federal High Court.
ADEWOLE ADEBAYO described the court order for the deregistration of political parties as unconstitutional and undemocratic, warning that could destroy Nigeria’s democratic development.
In a statement on his X handle, the SDP Presidential candidate said there was no constitutional, legal or moral basis for the suppression of political parties through what he called government-backed judicial action.
He said the timing of the development was particularly troubling as it comes barely days after the commemoration of Democracy Day in Nigeria, with public celebrations and renewed commitments to democratic governance.
The SDP said although his party was not among those affected by the court order, remaining silent in the face of such injustice would amount to abandoning democratic principles.
