TIMIPRE SYLVA, 2 Retired Military Officers, Police Inspector, 3 Others Face Treason and Terrorism Charges
The Federal Government has filed terrorism and treason charges against six individuals, including two retired military officers and a serving police inspector.
Also listed among the defendants in former Minister of State for Petroleum Resources, TIMIPRE SYLVA, who remains at large since traveling out of the country.
In the thirteen-count charge before the Federal High Court in Abuja, the government accused the defendants of plotting to commit acts of terrorism and waging war against the Nigeria state.
The Director of Public Prosecutions in the Office of the Attorney-General of the Federation, ROTIMI OYEDEPO, confirmed the development in a statement.
OYEDEPO listed the defendants as retired Major General MOHAMMED GANA, retired Naval Captain ERASMUS VICTOR, Inspector AHMED IBRAHIM, ZEKERI UMORU, as well as BUKAR GONI, and ABDULKADIR SANI.
Court papers indicate that the defendants allegedly had prior knowledge of a planned treasonable act involving one Colonel MOHAMMED ALHASSAN MA’AJI and others but failed to alert authorities.
He said the defendants are scheduled for arraignment tomorrow, Wednesday, April 22, 2026, before Justice JOYCE ABDULMALIK.
