US Congressman Questions Terrorism Conviction of Pro-Biafra Agitator, NNAMDI KANU

A United States Congressman JOHN JAMES has launched a campaign seeking to pressure the Nigerian government to revisit the conviction and life imprisonment of Nigerian pro-Biafra agitator, NNAMDI KANU.

The Republican lawmaker for Michigan's Tenth Congressional District claims that NNAMDI KANU was convicted on false terrorism charges.

Congressman JOHN JAMES said he should either be released or made to face a retrial based on evidence, and in accordance with the Nigerian Constitution and other international conventions.

NNAMDI KANU is currently serving his life conviction at the Sokoto Correctional Centre, following his conviction of seven counts of terrorism, treason, and other charges, after prolonged trial that lasted about ten years.

Justice JAMES OMOTOSHO of the Federal High Court in Abuja ruled that the prosecution proved that the separatist leader incited violence and killings through a series of broadcasts, as part of his campaign for a separate Biafra state in south-east Nigeria.
