2 SOLDIERS DEAD, AS TROOPS REPEL ATTACKS BY INSURGENTS IN NORTHEAST
Troops of the Nigerian military have foiled an attack by Boko Haram/ISWAP terrorists on their location in New Marte, Borno State.
Troops of Operation Hadin Kai repelled the attack in the early hours of today, Tuesday, May 27, through the combined effort of ground forces and the Air Component.
Captain Reuben Kovangiya, Acting Deputy Director Army Public Relations, Headquarters Theatre Command of Operation Hadin Kai, said the terrorists attempted to infiltrate the troops' location, but were met with heavy gunfire.
Captain Kovangiya disclosed in a statement that the Air Component provided immediate Intelligence Surveillance and Reconnaissance and offensive fire support, leading to the decimation of several fleeing terrorists.
However, the military spokesman noted that two soldiers lost their lives during the encounter.
He said the troops also recovered one Vehicle Borne Improvised Explosive Device, which was abandoned by the terrorists, just as they destroyed several motorcycles by precision air strikes.
In a related development, troops also repelled a daring attempt by terrorists to attack the Forward Operating Base at Kumshe.
