Oriire Abduction: Army Takes Over Old Oyo National Park for Military Training

The Nigerian Army has confirmed taking over security of the Old Oyo National Park, which has now been converted into a military training centre.

This followed the recent abduction of over forty schoolchildren and teachers from three schools in Oriire Local Government Area of Oyo State, who were held captive at the Old Oyo National Park by their captors.

The General Officer Commanding, Two Division of the Nigerian Army, Major-General AUWALU MAHMUDA, confirmed the development while briefing some journalists at the headquarters in Odogbo, Akinyele Local Government Area of Oyo State.

The GOC said the move approved by the Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant-General WAIDI SHUAIBU, was aimed at preventing criminals from using the vast forest area as a hideout.

He with the military present in the Old Oyo National Park, it has become a no-go area for kidnappers and other criminal elements.
