10 Killed in Fresh Attacks in Plateau, Ondo... Catholic Church Faults Police on Death Toll of Debe Easter Sunday Attack at 24

Eight members of the same family have been killed in a fresh attack in Plateau State.

The latest incident occurred late-night yesterday at Mbwelle village in Bokkos Local Government Area.

Reports indicate that the assailants stormed the community at about 11p.m. on Thursday, fire gunshots in an operation that lasted nearly an hour.

The Chairman of Bokkos Local Government Area, SAMUEL AMALAU, confirmed the attack in an interview with newsmen.

In Ondo State; gunmen have killed a woman and her daughter in an attack on a poultry farm at Igunshin community in Akure North Local Government Area.

Reports quoted local sources indicate that the gunmen stormed the area at about 1:00pm yesterday, while the victims were working with other members of the poultry staff.

The spokesperson for the Ondo State Police Command, DSP ABAYOMI JIMOH, who confirmed the incident in a statement, said the police rescued two victims who were abducted by the gunmen.

Meanwhile; the Catholic Diocese of Kontagora has faulted the claim by the police that four people were killed in the Easter Sunday attack by terrorists on residents of Debe village in Shanga Local Government Area of Kebbi.

Instead, the leadership of the Catholic Diocese of Kontagora put the death toll at twenty-four people, comprising Christians, Muslims, and traditional worshippers.

The Director of Social Communications of the Diocese, Reverend Father MATTHEW STEPHEN KABIRAT, confirmed that the terrorists also razed down the Saint Mary’s Catholic Church, as well as the residence of the Catechist, plus a mosque, shops and several houses.

In a text of a news conference addressed in Yauri town, Reverend Father KABIRAT said the violence also spread to neighbouring communities, including Binuwa and Kalkame, where the armed bandits destroyed markets, the emir’s residence, and several other structures.

The Catholic priest appealed to President BOLA TINUBU and Kebbi State Governor NASIR IDRIS to take decisive actions to restore security in the area to enable displaced residents to safely return to their homes.
