Abia North-2027: LP Chieftain Knocks Sen OUK Over Claim of Energy Partnership Deal with Chinese Coy
The Senator for Abia North in the National Assembly, ORJI UZOR KALU, has come under severe criticism from one his arch political rival in the area over claim to have signed a lucrative energy partnership deal with a Chinese company.
Writing in a post on his Facebook page, Senator ORJI UZOR KALU noted that the “New Energy Industry Framework Cooperation Agreement between Swiber Africa and GCL Group of China”, which was signed in Dubai on January 25, 2026, “is focused on delivering real, long-term solutions to Nigeria’s power challenges through modern gas-fired plants, renewable energy projects, grid upgrades and intelligent energy management systems aligned with the Presidential Power Initiative.”
The former governor of Abia State further noted that: “Beyond power, this cooperation places strong emphasis on lithium development. Nigeria is richly endowed with lithium resources, and our shared goal is to move beyond raw extraction to local processing, value addition, job creation and global exports. Plans to develop a lithium carbonate smelting facility in Abia State are a clear step in that direction.”
However, Abiriba-born industrialist-turned politician, Chief DAVID OGBA ONUOHA, also took to his social media page to criticize Senator ORJI UZOR KALU in what he titled: “From Rants to Photo Ops: A Man and His Lifetime of Gamji”.
Chief DAVID OGBA ONUOHA recalled that ORJI UZOR KALU was in Abia some days ago, “ranting like a landlord who misplaced his title deed” and threatening takeovers; issuing ultimatums, and claiming ownership of Abia State.
ONUOHA, also known as Bourdex, accused the Abia North Senator of assembling what he described as “the old cast — familiar faces from a painful chapter Abians would rather forget”, but received a backlash from Abians at home and abroad, who spoke with one voice, saying: “Never again”.
The Labour Party chieftain said ORJI KALU’s claim of energy agreement, with documents and photos from Dubai, appears to be a new script to advance his political scheme.
However, he reminded the APC Senator that Abia State was no longer under private management, adding that signing agreements without authority amounts to a theatre.
“A senator is not the President. Not the Minister of Power. Not the Governor of Abia State. So, when Abia is mentioned casually, proprietorially, as if permission were assumed rather than required, the intent is obvious: damage control dressed as development.” the former Mayor of Ohafia Local Government council noted.
He maintained that “today, Abia is under steady, disciplined, transparent leadership—leadership that fixes roads instead of repainting narratives, that rebuilds institutions instead of recycling myths.”
There has been no response from Senator ORJI UZOR KALU to the criticism by Chief DAVID OGBA ONUOHA.
