Lagos Removes Punitive Measures in Enforcement of Monthly Sanitation
There appears to be no going back in the move by the Lagos State Government on the reintroduction of monthly environmental sanitation exercise, beginning from the last Saturday in the month of April.
The Commissioner for Environment and Water Resources, TOKUMBO WAHAB, said the aim is to bring back the culture of community participation in waste and environment management.
WAHAB said while there would be no restriction of movement during the cleanup exercise, the Lagos State Government has adopted strategies to ensure that implementation does not infringe on the rights of residents.
Speaking in an interview on the television platform, TOKUNBO WAHAB said the reintroduction of the cleanup exercise is leaning on the successful implementation of the ban of the sale and use of Styrofoam and single-use plastic products in Lagos State.
WAHAB said the enforcement of the ban on Styrofoam products has recorded over eighty percent, while that of single-use plastic materials is about seventy-five percent.
