The Lagos State Commissioner of Police, OLOHUNDARE JIMOH, has approved massive deployment of operatives of the Anti-Cultism Squads in all Area Commands to go after cultists who have been terrorising residents in parts of the state.

The Police Public Relations Officer, CSP BENJAMIN HUNDEYIN, who confirmed the development in a statement, said the Anti-Cultism Squads have been equipped to respond swiftly and professionally to cultism-related threats.

CSP HUNDEYIN said the CP also urged members of the public to play active roles by providing credible information to enable the police respond to security threats as quickly as possible.

In another development, the PPRO also announced the arrest of a suspected armed robber, identified as OMOTAYO IWAJOMO and the recovery of an AK-49 assault rifle, with several rounds of ammunition from him.

He said detectives from the State Criminal Investigation Department stormed a criminal hideout in the Ajegunle area of the Ikorodu where he was arrested.

The police spokesman said preliminary investigations revealed that the suspect had been actively involved in armed robbery and land-grabbing activities in various parts of Lagos State, using the firearm recovered from him to perpetrate his crimes.
