Appeal Court Affirms 490yrs Imprisonment of Ex-NEXIM MD, ROBERT ORYA

The Court of Appeal in Abuja has affirmed the conviction and four hundred-and-ninety-years imprisonment of a former Managing Director of the Nigeria Export-Import Bank, ROBERT ORYA, over a Two-Point-Four Billion Naira.

Justice MUHAMMED DANJUMA delivered the judgement on Tuesday, September 8, 2026, affirming the earlier decision of Justice F.E. MESSIRI of the High Court of the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja.

Justice MESSIRI had found ORYA guilty of bank fraud on February 5, 2026, following the successful prosecution of a forty-nine-count charge brough against him by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, which began in 2021.

However, ORYA approached Appeal Court to challenge the judgement of the lower court, which the panel of three justices, led by Justice MUHAMMED decided against him.
