Brazil Returnee Arrested at Lagos Airport for Cocaine Smuggling

A Nigerian man based in Brazil has been arrested in connection with a cocaine consignment intercepted at the Murtala Mohammed International Airport in Lagos.

Forty-one-year-old ABUGU OLIVER IKECHUKWU, who is based in Sao Paulo, Brazil, was arrested by operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, NDLEA.

ABUGU was detained following the discovery of over six kilograms of liquid cocaine concealed in shirts and towels imported from Brazil.

NDLEA spokesman, FEMI BABAFEMI, disclosed in a statement that ABUGU arrived in Lagos, through Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, on Thursday last week, June 11, 2026.

BABAFEMI said a thorough search of his luggage led to the recovery of fourteen towels and shirts, all soaked in liquid cocaine, dried and well ironed.

He said the suspect revealed during interrogation that he had lived in Brazil for over fourteen years, where he runs an African restaurant, and decided to return to Nigeria to see his wife and buy bulk food stuff for his restaurant.
