DSS Files Cybercrimes Charges Against El-Rufai, as Protesters Seek EFCC Prosecution.

The Federal Government has filed charges against former governor of Kaduna State, NASIR EL-RUFAI over his purported confession of tapping the phone line of the National Security Adviser, NUHU RIBADU.

The three-count charge against EL-RUFAI was filed by lawyers from the Department of State Services at the Federal High Court in Abuja.

The DSS made reference to EL-RUFAI’s interview on Arise Television on Friday, February 13, 2026, wherein he allegedly admitted unlawful interception of the phone communication of the NSA.

The secret police agency said by his admission, EL-RUFAI committed an offence punishable under the Cybercrimes Prohibition and Prevention Act, 2024 and the Nigerian Communication Act, 2003.

This comes after the Office of the National Security Adviser also directed EL-RUFAI to submit evidence of his alleged claim of the procurement of a poisonous chemical substance known as Thallium Sulphate to the DSS for investigation.

EL-RUFAI reportedly made the separate allegation in a letter dated January 30, 2026, and addressed to the National Security Adviser, NUHU RIBADU, claiming that the highly toxic, colourless and odourless chemical was sourced from a supplier in Poland.

Meanwhile, a group of protesters have stormed the headquarters of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, in Abuja, calling for the investigation and prosecution of former governor of Kaduna State, NASIR EL-RUFAI.

The protesters were mobilized under the umbrella Mega National Movement for Good Governance, and they made allegations of financial misconduct against EL-RUFAI, but without specific details about the nature of the crime.

Reports from the Federal Capital Territory indicate that the protesters sang and danced to the rhythm of protest chants, as they processed on the streets of Abuja under the cover of armed security operatives.
