COURT REMANDS 2 WOMEN IN PRISON FOR HAWKING NAIRA NOTES IN LAGOS

Two women identified as Folake Adeoti and Modupe Adewuyi have landed in trouble with the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission for alleged abuse of the naira in Lagos State.

Adeoti is facing one-court charge of mutilation of the Naira before Justice Yellim Bogoro of the Federal High Court sitting in Ikoyi, Lagos.

EFCC operatives arrested Adeoti on March 21, 2025, around Jobi Fele Way, Ikeja, while hawking Naira notes to the tune of N3,850,000 (Three Million, Eight Hundred and Fifty Thousand Naira.)

EFCC’s Head of Media and Publicity, Dele Oyewale, said Adeoti pleaded guilty to the charge when it was read to her.

Following the development, Justice Bogoro ordered the remand of the woman at a correctional centre and adjourned the matter till May 2, 2025, for ruling.

On the other hand, the EFCC arraigned Modupe Adewuyi on a one-count charge bordering on illegal sale of Naira notes before Justice Bogoro.

Dele Oyewale said Adewuyi was arrested while hawking Naira notes to the tune of N1,600,000 (One Million, Six Hundred Thousand Naira.)

Adewuyi pleaded guilty to the charge when it was read to her, and Justice Bogoro also ordered her to be remanded in prison and adjourned the matter till May 2, 2025, for ruling.
