Father and Son Detained, as Police Crackdown on Armed Robbery Gangs in Ogun State

The Ogun State Police Command has smashed gangs of armed robbers and arrested five suspects, including a father and his twenty-three-year-old son. Detectives attached to the command also recovered four assorted firearms, comprising two locally made pistols and two dane guns. The Command’s Police Public Relations Officer, DSP OLUSEYI BABASEYI, said the operation was carried out by a team from the Afon Division. DSP BABASEYI said the father and son, identified as FATAI ADEGBOLA and WALIU ADEGBOLA, were nabbed following a report of stealing on May 22, 2026. BABASEYI said WALIU ADEGBOLA was alleged to have stolen a Tecno Android phone valued at One Hundred and Eighty Thousand Naira from a residential apartment on May 8, 2026, which was later recovered from his apartment. The PPRO said during a search of WALIU’s apartment based on duly obtained warrant, operatives also recovered a locally-made pistol and a dane gun, allegedly concealed within the premises. He said operatives from the Ilisan Remo Police Division also recovered a locally-fabricated pistol, with one live cartridge during a routine patrol at Ilisan Remo Roundabout on Wednesday, May 27. Similarly; the police spokesman said operatives from the Ode Remo Division arrested one INIOLUWA ADESANYA, who is twenty-five years old, in connection with the theft of a dane gun belonging to a resident of Ode Remo. He said during investigation, the suspect confessed to the offence and admitted affiliation with the Aye confraternity, further revealing that the weapon was modified for concealment purposes. The Ogun State Police Command’s PPRO said all the cases have been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department, Eleweran, Abeokuta, for further investigation and prosecution.
