FG Secures US Cooperation on Coordinator Response to Terrorists, Violent Extremist Groups

The Federal Government appears to have reached an understanding with the United States authorities on a coordinate response to the violent attacks by radical Islamists in various parts of the country.

The Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, BAYO ONANUGA, said the US affirmed its readiness to deepen security cooperation with Nigeria.

ONANUGA said the cooperation would include enhanced intelligence support, defence equipment, and articles to reinforce ongoing operations against terrorists and violent extremist groups in the country.

This follows discussions last week between a high-level Nigerian delegation led by the National Security Adviser, NUHU RIBADU, and US officials in Washington DC.

In a statement, the Presidential spokesman said both countries agreed to implement a non-binding cooperation framework and to establish a Joint Working Group to ensure a unified and coordinated approach to the agreed areas of cooperation.
