NDC, ADC Chieftains Back PETER OBI's Threat to Life Claim, Knock APC Govt for Bigotry
A chieftain of the Nigeria Democratic Congress, NDC, LADIPO JOHNSON, has warned that ethnic bigotry is being elevated above the contest of ideas, as Nigeria prepares for the 2027 general elections.
LADIPO JOHNSON is a political associate of former governor of Kano State, RABIU MUSA KWANKWASO, and the NDC Senatorial candidate for the 2027 election for Lagos Central Senatorial District.
JOHNSON says even as an indigene of Lagos State, he is currently facing strong resistance in his attempts to appeal to people within his constituency for support.
The candidate recalled that the intimidation and suppression of the opposition in Lagos State started in 2023, after PETER OBI won majority of the votes in the 2023 presidential election.
He lamented that Nigeria’s democracy has suffered significant damage since President BOLA AHMED TINUBU assumed office in May 2023.
On the Presidency’s reaction to PETER OBI’s claim that he was facing increasing threats and may not be alive for the 2027 elections, LADIPO JOHNSON cautioned the presidential spokesman BAYO ONANUGA on his wrong choice of words in addressing the NDC presidential candidate’s claims.
Similarly, a lawyer and member of the African Democratic Congress, ADC, KALU KALU, says there is nothing wrong with the personal security alarm raised by the presidential candidate of the NDC, PETER OBI.
KALU KALU also said that other opposition chieftains who have voiced concerns over the PETER OBI’s claims are also within their right to do so, as an injury to one, is an injury to all.
KALU who shared his views during an interview on a television platform, said OBI’s claims align with the manner in which the ruling party is treating several opposition leaders in the country, which he described as persecution.
Speaking further, KALU KALU questioned the prolonged detention of former governor of Kaduna State, NASIR EL-RUFAI, who is facing trial by the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission, ICPC.
