Nnamdi Kanu's Terrorism Trial Stalled Due To Delayed Access To Case File

The terrorism trial of the embattled leader of the banned Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, NNAMDI KANU, has been further delayed at the Federal High Court in Abuja due to his failure to open his defence.

At the resumed consideration of the case before Justice JAMES OMOTOSHO, KANU said he could not open his defence because he has not been handed the case file to enable him prepare for his defence.

KANU informed the Court that those responsible for bringing the case file to him, while he is in the custody of the Department of State Services, DSS, were unable to meet with him yesterday.

Therefore, he prayed the court for more time to allow his people to bring the case file by the weekend so that he would be ready to proceed with his defence by Monday next week, October 27.

NNAMDI KANU also told the court that he was expecting witnesses from all over the world, including the United Kingdom, the United States of America, Kenya and Ethiopia.

Furthermore, KANU applied for an order compelling the DSS to allow him access to his people on Saturday and Sunday for the purpose of preparing for his defence.

Reports indicate that the prosecution counsel, ADEGBOYEGA AWOMOLO did not object to KANU’s, following which Justice OMOTOSHO ordered the DSS to allow the defendant to receive visitors on non-working days.

Following the development, the trial judge adjourned the case till October 27 for the defendant to open his defence, warning that the six days granted Kanu to conduct his defence, which began on October 23, will not be extended.
