President Tinubu Suspends Trips to South Africa and Angola, as Security Crisis Worsens

President BOLA AHMED TINUBU has postponed his two-nation trip to South Africa and Angola for the G-Twenty Summit and the African Union-European Union summit.

President TINUBU initially planned to jet out of Abuja today to Johannesburg, South Africa; venue of the G-Twenty Summit, before proceeding from there to Luanda, Angola for the AU-EU summit, which begins on Monday next week.

However, the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, BAYO ONANUGA, said the President’s departure has now been suspended due to the security situation in the country.

In a statement confirming the change of travel plans, ONANUGA said President decided to stay back for further security briefing on the kidnapped Kebbi schoolgirls and the attack on worshippers at Christ Apostolic Church in Eruku, Kwara State.

He said in response to the request of Kwara State Governor, President TINUBU has also ordered the deployment of more security personnel to Eruku and the entire Ekiti Local Government Area of the state.

President TINUBU is also waiting to receive reports from Vice President KASHIM SHETTIMA, whom he sent on sympathy visit to Kebbi State.

The Presidential spokesman further noted that the Nigeria Police Force and the Department of State Services are also expected to send report to the President on the attack in Kwara.

He said President TINUBU reiterated his directive to the security agencies to do everything possible to rescue the remaining twenty-four schoolgirls who were abducted by Islamist terrorists in Kebbi State.
