Treason, Terrorism Charges: Kanu Makes U-Turn; Agrees to Open Defence, Shortlist 23 Witnesses
Pro-Biafra agitator and leader of the banned Indigenous Peoples of Biafra, IPOB, NNAMDI KANU, has agreed to open his defence in the treason and terrorism charges the Federal Government filed against him.
The move marks a dramatic turn of events, as KANU had on Thursday last week, filed a motion of preliminary objection challenging the jurisdiction of the court to continue with his trial.
It also comes a day after KANU’s personal counsel, ALOY EJIMAKOR, and his younger brother, PRINCE, were arrested, arraigned in court and remanded in prison custody for taking part in a protest in Abuja to demand his release from detention.
However, in a fresh motion at the Federal High Court in Abuja, which KANU personally filed on Tuesday, October 21, he assured the court that he was prepared to begin his defence on October 24, 2025.
According to the motion before Justice JAMES OMOTOSHO, KANU said he plans to call a total of twenty-three witnesses, including those to be subpoenaed by the court.
The list of witnesses he intends to summon before the court include former Minister of Defence, retired General THEOPHILUS DANJUMA, former Chief of Army Staff, General TUKUR BURATAI, and Lagos State Governor, BABAJIDE SANWO-OLU.
