Why Ohafia Must Produce the Next Senator for Abia North: The Justification for Chief DAVID ONUOHA OGBA (BOURDEX)
Abia North Senatorial District is a zone of five brothers - Isuikwuato, Umunneochi, Arochukwu, Bende and Ohafia. A zone built on brotherhood, love, equity, the spirit of my brother’s keeper and fairness, over and above greed and self-centredness. Since the return of democracy in 1999, that brotherhood has been preserved through a moral, unwritten but respected natural rotation of the Senate seat among the five Local Governments. It is this principle of natural unwritten rotation that has kept Abia North peaceful and united as a sagacious bloc in the State.
Today, that principle is under threat by the greed and self-centredness of one man and justice demands that Ohafia takes its turn in 2027.
1. THE HISTORIC RECORD IS CLEAR: EVERY LGA HAS TAKEN A SHOT, EXCEPT OHAFIA IN THE FOURTH REPUBLIC (1999 - 2027)
History does not lie.
- Isuikwuato produced Senator Ike Nwachukwu. The people’s General served and bowed out with honour.
- Umunneochi produced Senator Uche Chukwumerije of blessed memory. The highly disciplined and celebrated orator served and bowed out.
- Arochukwu produced Senator Mao Ohuabunwa. The soft spoken elder statesman served and bowed out.
- Bende produced the current Senator Orji Uzor Kalu. The first Abia Governor in the 4th republic will serve out his 8 years in 2027 and bow out or the people of Abia North Senatorial District including Igbere clan in Bende LGA will be left with no option than to help him bow out.
By the doctrine of equity, what is good for Isuikwuato, Umunneochi, Arochukwu and Bende is also good for Ohafia just like what is good for Igbere clan is also good for Item,?Alayi, Eziukwu, Ugwueke, Nkpa, Uzuakoli, Imenyi and Umuhu clans. Ohafia cannot be the only LGA to be permanently excluded. To deny Ohafia in 2027 is to tell Ohafia LGA that it is a second-class citizen in a zone where it is a major stakeholder.
2. SENATOR ORJI UZOR KALU HAS TAKEN MORE THAN HIS FAIR SHARE AND MUST BOW OUT.
Let us count what Senator Orji Uzor Kalu has taken from the commonwealth of Abia State and Abia North:
- 8 years as Executive Governor of Abia State (1999-2007)
- Extra 2 years as de-facto Governor and godfather of his successor (2007-2009) when Abia was still under his control.
- 8 years as Senator for Abia North by June 2027 (2019-2027)
That is 18 years of direct control over the political destiny of Abia North and Abia State. In the life of the Fourth Republic, which is 28 years by 2027, one man alone has held power for 18 years.
He has taken his fair share. He has eaten his own portion and, if he continues beyond 2027, he will be eating the portion of others. No single individual from one LGA and one clan should monopolize what belongs to five LGAs and several clans.
3. SENATOR KALU’S CONTINUED STAY BEYOND 2027 IS AN INJUSTICE TO ALL FIVE LGAs, INCLUDING BENDE AND CLANS.
Senator Kalu’s continued stay does not only shortchange Ohafia. It shortchanges everyone including his own Igbere clan.
- It shortchanges Ohafia whose turn it is.
- It shortchanges Isuikwuato, Umunneochi and Arochukwu who are waiting for the rotation to come back to them.
- Even more, it shortchanges Bende LGA itself. If Kalu eats Ohafia’s turn in 2027, when will the next Bende aspirant get a chance? By monopolizing the seat, Kalu is blocking young, capable Bende sons and daughters whose aspirations would have been fast-forwarded after Ohafia takes its turn if Senator Kalu is allowed to exit in his own terms and time. He is closing the door against his own LGA’s and clan’s future.
4. ABIA NORTH NEEDS NEW IDEAS, NOT RECYCLED LEADERSHIP.
After 8 years as Governor, 2 years as godfather-governor, and 8 years as Senator, Senator Kalu must have exhausted his ideas and understandably run out of new ideas. The zone cannot continue to recycle a leadership that has exhausted its vision.
Abia North needs a Senator with a different background - a private sector background, a wealth creator, a job creator, a man who understands modern economy, investment and development, not just politics.
That man is Chief David Onuoha Ogba (Bourdex).
5. WHY CHIEF DAVID ONUOHA OGBA IS THE ANSWER.
Ohafia LGA under the Labour Party has not just presented any candidate; it has presented its best, a man whose capacity, competence and character stand him out:
- A Successful Son of Abia North: Chief Bourdex is not a career politician who depends on government. He is a successful businessman who has created jobs, built industries and empowered thousands of Abia youths. He will bring that entrepreneurial drive to the Senate.
- Competence and Capacity: He has the exposure, the contacts, and the intellectual depth to give Abia North quality representation in the Red Chamber - robust debates, influential committee positions, and attraction of federal presence.
- Unifying Figure: He is loved across the five LGAs. He is not clannish, not divisive. He is a brother to Isuikwuato, Umunneochi, Arochukwu, Bende and Ohafia. His election will heal wounds and strengthen the brotherhood of Abia North.
- Labour Party Platform: He is running on the platform of the ruling party in Abia State - the Labour Party - which has shown what good governance means under Dr. Alex Otti. Aligning Abia North with the centre of performance in Abia State is strategic and Governor Alex Otti in his wisdom looked the way of Ohafia LGA and in his vision cum conviction handed over the Labour Party ticket of Abia North Senatorial District to Chief David Onuoha Ogba (Bourdex) because he knows and understands him.
CONCLUSION: LET BROTHERHOOD PREVAIL.
The Senate seat of Abia North does not belong to one man. It belongs to the five LGAs and the people from various clans. It is a shared meal. You eat your portion and allow your brother to eat his.
Senator Orji Uzor Kalu has eaten well. He should bow out with honour in 2027 and allow Ohafia to take its worthy slot. To do otherwise is greed that will destroy the brotherhood between the five brothers and stall the political future of young people across the zone including Bende LGA and Igbere clan.
Ohafia has waited. Ohafia is ready. Ohafia has presented Chief David Onuoha Ogba. A vote for Chief David Onuoha Ogba (Bourdex) is a show of Love, Support and solidarity to Governor Alex C. Otti, OFR.
Let equity speak. Let fairness prevail. Let Ohafia produce the next Senator for Abia North. It is not only fair, it is right.
