WIKE TALKS TOUGH AGAINST FCT SHANTY DWELLERS FACING DEMOLITION THREAT
The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, NYESOM WIKE, says there is no room for poor people who leave their states to Abuja and cannot afford the rent for a proper accommodation in the city.
NYESOM WIKE also said that the FCT Administration cannot afford the huge cost of alternative accommodation for slum dwellers in Abuja, following public outcry against ongoing efforts to clear the federal capital city of shanties.
Speaking during a media chat with select journalists, WIKE maintained that the clearance of shanties in the FCT was part of measures to dislodged criminals and rid the city of crimes.
He further disclosed that the FCT Administration currently has a monthly wage bill of over N12b (Twelve Billion Naira), which he said is far above about N10b (Ten Billion Naira) it gets from the Federal Allocations.
