100TH PDP NEC MEETING THREATENED, AS DAMAGUM MEETS INEC CHAIRMAN
The Acting National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party, UMAR DAMAGUM, is meeting today with the Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission, Professor MAHMOOD YAKUBU.
Some state governors elected on the platform of the PDP and other notable stakeholders of the main opposition party are also expected at the meeting today.
This comes after INEC rejected the PDP’s notice for its forthcoming 100th National Executive Committee on June 30, 2025, for noncompliance with the commission’s guideline.
The Commission specifically noted that the letter was not duly signed by the recognized National Chairman and National Secretary of the PDP.
In a letter signed by INEC’s Acting Secretary, MATHRU AMINU, the Commission advised the PDP to ensure proper compliance with its rules moving forward.
The PDP has been torn between the retention of Senator SAMUEL ANYANWU or replacing him after he emerged the party’s candidate for the 2023 governorship election in Imo State.
The crisis has been blamed for the mass defections from the PDP, including Delta State Governor SHERIFF OBOREVWORI, and his Akwa Ibom State counterpart, UMO ENO, among others.
