7/7 CULT DAY: POLICE ON ALERT IN SOUTH-WEST STATES, 53 SUSPECTED CULTISTS ARRESTED IN LAGOS
The Lagos State Police Command says it has made adequate arrangements for security across the state, following plans by some people to stage cult events in parts of the state.
Operatives have also arrested fifty-two suspected cultists in joint raids of hideouts while they were in preparation for the so-called Seven-Seven Cultism Day in Lagos State.
The Commissioner of Police, OLOHUNDARE JIMOH, held a meeting the command’s anti-cultism squad and other tactical commanders to prepare them for the task ahead.
CP JIMOH also warns hotel owners and managers to be mindful of their guests so as not to allow cult-related activities on their premises, as well as for parents and guardians to prevail on their children and wards to desist from acts of violence.
The Police Public Relations Officer, CSP BENJAMIN HUNDEYIN, who confirmed the developments in a statement, said members of the public are enjoined to report to the police any suspicious activities around them.
In a related development, the Ogun State Police Command has issued a security alert to the general public, especially young persons, regarding planned cult-related celebrations across the state.
The Police Public Relations Officer, CSP OMOLOLA ODUTOLA, disclosed in a statement that the Command has reinforced security across all Divisions and Area Commands to ensure peace and public safety.
CSP ODUTOLA also assured that any attempt to stage unlawful gatherings, processions, or anniversary events linked to cultism would be met with swift and decisive police action.
The police spokeswoman said parents and guardians are advised to caution their wards, while young people are strongly urged to avoid loitering or forming clusters in public places.
She said that security operatives would not hesitate to disperse gatherings that raise suspicion or threaten public peace, warning that anyone found in possession of firearms would be prosecuted.
