Alleged Terrorism Financing: Trial of Bauchi State Finance Commissioner Stalled

The trial of Bauchi State Commissioner for Finance, YAKUBU ADAMU, on charges of terrorism financing and money laundering has been stalled, as the case file has been returned to the Chief Judge of the Federal High Court for reassignment.

ADAMU, who is a former Branch Manager of a commercial bank in Bauchi, is standing trial before the Federal High Court in Abuja alongside three others, identified as BALARABE ABDULLAHI ILELAH, AMINU MOHAMMED BOSE and KABIRU YAHAYA MOHAMMED.

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission filed ten counts of terrorism financing and money laundering charges against ADAMU, involving the sum of Nine-Point-Seven Million Dollars.

The defendants were arraigned on December 31, 2025, and they all pleaded not guilty to the charges preferred against them, but Justice EMEKA NWITE declined to grant their bail application on January 5, 2026.

Instead, Justice NWITE ordered the defendants be remanded in the Kuje Correctional Centre in Abuja pending the determination of the case, ad adjourned the case to January 13 for commencement of trial.

At the resumed hearing of the case today, Justice NWITE resolved to return the case file to the Chief Judge of the FHC following the expiration of his role as vacation judge.
