AMAECHI, HAYAB Back Catholic Bishops Over Allegation of Partisanship

The meeting between President BOLA AHMED TINUBU and the Catholic Bishops Conference of Nigeria, led by Most Reverend MATTHEW MBASOGO, continues to draw reactions from Nigerians, after over a week of the engagement at the State House in Abuja.

In some of the latest reactions, former Governor of Rivers and erstwhile Minister of Transportation, ROTIMI CHIBUIKE AMAECHI, said there was nothing private in the meeting between President TINUBU and members of the CBCN.

AMAECHI, who is currently the vice-presidential candidate of the African Democratic Congress, ADC, also defended Cardinal JOHN ONAIYEKAN, who has been strongly criticized by the Presidency for appearing on television to discuss issues the CBCN raised with President TINUBU.

AMAECHI maintained that Cardinal ONAIYEKAN is not partisan, as alleged by the Presidency and politicians aligned with the administration of the All Progressives Congress, APC.

Speaking during an interview on television, ROTIMI AMAECHI, said the former Catholic Archbishop of Abuja rightly spoke out over the hardship, poverty and corruption confronting Nigerians.

Similarly, the Chairman of the Northern Christian Association, Reverend JOHN JOSEPH HAYAB, who spoke in a separate interview, said those who accuse Cardinal ONAIYEKAN of partisanship are either out of their mind or simply ignorant.
