CHELLE NAMES 23-MAN SQUAD FOR CRUCIAL OCTOBER ROUND OF 2026 FIFA WORLD CUP QUALIFIERS

Super Eagles head coach, Eric Chelle, has announced a twenty-three-man squad for the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers against Lesotho and Benin Republic.

The team includes Sevilla striker AKOR ADAMS, who has been handed his maiden call-up to the national team.

Captain WILLIAM TROOST-EKONG headlines the team, while SEMI AJAYI, TEREM MOFFI, ALHASSAN YUSUF AND OLAKUNLE OLUSEGUN made comebacks after being away from the national side.

Others are STANLEY NWABALI, who retains his place as first-choice goalkeeper, supported by AMAS OBASOGIE and ADEBAYO ADELEYE.

There are also Felix AGU, BRUNO ONYEMAECHI, BRIGHT OSAYI, BENJAMIN FREDRICK, and CALVIN BASSEY drafted into defence.

In midfield are ALEX IWOBI, WILFRED NDIDI, FRANK ONYEKA and ALHASSAN YUSUF, while VICTOR OSIMHEN will lead the forward, together with ADEMOLA LOOKMAN, MOSES SIMON, SAMUEL CHUKWUEZE, TEREM MOFFI, CYRIEL DESSERS, and TOLU AROKODARE.

The announcement comes as Nigeria faces a critical task in Group C of the African qualifiers, with the hope of reaching the World Cup final slipping away after five draws in eight matches.

However, FIFA’s recent sanction against South Africa, with three points deducted from their tally and three goals awarded against them for fielding an ineligible player, dramatically altered the picture of Group C.
