The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has reported the seizure of undeclared foreign currencies, including $1,154,900 at the Mallam Aminu Kano International Airport in Kano.
NCS operatives also intercepted another undeclared sum of 135,900 Saudi Riyals during a recent operation at the same airport in Kano.
National Public Relations Officer of the NCS, Abdullahi Maiwada, disclosed in a statement that the foreign currencies were found during baggage check on one Hauwa Ibrahim Abdullahi, who arrived in Kano from Saudi Arabia.

Maiwada, who is an Assistant Comptroller of Customs, said the foreign currencies were concealed inside packs of date-palm fruits belonging to the inbound passenger.
He maintained that the seizure of the hard currencies was in line with the commitment of the NCS to the enforcement of financial regulations and the prevention of illicit financial flows across Nigeria’s borders.
The spokesman declared that Customs under the leadership of the Comptroller General, Bashir Adewale Adeniyi, remained resolute in its efforts to combating smuggling, illicit financial transactions and other trans-border crimes in the country.
